Yanks close to signing Pedro Feliciano?

A few weeks back, I mentioned lefty relief help and stated my choice of Scott Downs with Pedro Feliciano second.

Downs, however, cost picks. Feliciano doesn’t. Downs eventually went to the Angels.

The Yanks could be close to signing Feliciano.

I like this move but want to see the details. No more than two years, I hope.

One reason I like the move is that I really don’t trust Boone Logan. Yes, Logan had a 2.93 ERA last year but he was the only lefty in the Yankees bullpen. That 2.93 came after years of 8.31, 4.97, 5.95 and 5.19. Which one is unlike the others?

Boston’s additions of Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez–to go along with Drew and Ortiz, required a counterattack. Feliciano hopefully helps in that regard. Remember that Damaso Marte is out until at least mid-August, and that is if he can return at all from shoulder surgery.

Feliciano is 34. One possible concern is that he has led the majors in appearances in each of the past three seasons (86, 88 and 92 games). A) he may be durable B) will it catch up to him? His career mark is 22-19, 3.31, ERA+ 127. This past year with the Mets (NY Experience, another plus) he went 3-6, 3.30. He made $2.9 M last year. Two years at $6.5 sounds right to me. We’ll see if he joins the Yanks and what the details are.

Since establishing himself, Feliciano (2006-2010) has averaged 82 games a year, 4-4, 3.09.

He has postseason experience.

He was my 1B after Downs (1A). Let’s see what the details are, but as of now, I’d applaud the move.

Interesting. I wrote earlier about how AZ signed Nady. MLBTR reports they preferred him over Austin Kearns.

  1. It would be very interesting if George was still around how he would deal with what’s going on and while the Red Sox load up in their lineup and bullpen. The Yankees are shopping at the dollar store and come home with…. a catcher with a broken hip that also needs knee surgery, a pitcher who hasn’t thrown a good pitch in the majors in 2003, and a 34 lefty only ex-Met. Wood and Jenks get 2 year for 12 million which is pennies when your paying a 41 closer 15 per year. You have 25 million dollars to spend and you come home with dogshit. It’s embarassing to be a Yankee fan right now.

  2. oh hold on… they asked for the medical report on Freddy Garcia. Wow the has-been train keeps rolling on. Fans are gonna be running to the ticket booth to see thes guys….

  3. It’d be interesting but some of the Boss’s gut reactions weren’t too good.

Yeah, Jenks to Boston doesn’t look good. Feliciano for the Yanks is a must, I think. Rumors of the Yanks looking into Soriano shot down by Joel Sherman.

Don’t know what they’re thinking about with Garcia.

Of course, Mo gets $15M just like Jeter is getting $17M. The extra “Icons” tax, if you will.

  4. and they are not in on Soriano, because the doesn’t fit the Yankees gameplan. He’s A. young B. gonna cost money and C. People don’t have to watch classic espn to see when he was good.

  5. Yeah. Cashman has said he isn’t paying closer $ to a setup guy.
