Beltran signs, Gio Traded.

Carlos Beltran signed a two-year deal with St. Louis today. After losing Pujols, Beltran can play RF, Holliday is still there in LF. Berkman can move to 1B. They still have Freese, Jay, Craig…

Gio Gonzalez was dealt to Washington by the A’s today for four prospects. The 26 yr. old lefty was 16-12, 3.12 for the A’s in 2011, after 15-9, 3.23 in 2010. He’ll join Jordan Zimmerman and Steven Strasberg to give the Nats a nice, young 1-2-3. John Lannan at 4 isn’t too bad either. Now if Livan is #5, they could surprise, especially if Bryce Harper comes on. Davey Johnson developed youngsters in 1984 and 1985 with the Mets, and became a WS Champ in 1986. Could he do the same here?

Jason Marquis meanwhile, left the Nats for the Twins. He was 8-5, 3.95 for the Nats in 2011 in 20 starts.

Mark DeRosa goes to the Nats.
