Game 26. Not this time. Bullpen can’t deliver as Yanks lose 3-1.

The Yankees’ bullpen has been their strength so far this season, but no one is perfect. Chase Whitley pitched a great seven innings but the bats didn’t do much and the bullpen couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth. The Yanks lost to Toronto 3-1. The Yanks are now 16-10 on the season, still in first, two games up on Tampa Bay.

The Yanks managed just three hits in the game. Teix and McCann were given the night off, and the lineup had Stephen Drew, now at .149, hitting fifth (because of his previous success against knuckleballer Dickey).

Whitley 7 IP, 0 R,  6H, 0 walks and 6 K. 0.75.
Martin (L, 0-1, 3.86) 1/3 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 0 walks and 0 K.
Betances 2/3 IP, 1 R (unearned), 2 H, 0 walks and 1 K. 0.00.

Even though the Yanks are 16-10, their batting average is just .242. With Stephen Drew at .149 and Didi Gregorious at .213, (backup Gregorio Petit is at .194), I am waiting for the other shoe to drop and for Jose Pirela to be called up soon.
