AAA: SWB off. I was a bit surprised that Jose Pirela didn’t get a call up yet. See my post on Yankees’ Game 26.
AA: Trenton lost 6-1. Aaron Judge (.337) 3 hits. I wouldn’t mind if he gets promoted to AAA soon, and if successful there…. put it this way, the Yanks have a problem with Carlos Beltran right now. He’s been dropped in the lineup and is hitting just .203. Beltran, who has 373 career HR, hasn’t hit one since August 23rd of last season. He’s gone some 139 at bats since his last one. The Yanks owe him for this year AND next year. You wonder if they’ll eventually bite the bullet on the 38 year old Beltran like they did with Soriano last year. But unlike Soriano, Beltran has the extra year on his contract. The only thing with Judge is, he is a righty hitter, so a platoon with Chris Young wouldn’t work. The Yanks could bring up Ramon Flores or Slade Heathcott, both lefty hitters, up from AAA SWB to platoon with Young, or keep Young as a fourth OF, and push Judge. Judge, 6’7″, 275, has more power potential and a greater upside than Flores or Heathcott. We will see what happens this month, but even though the Yanks are winning (16-10), they can’t continue with a .149 hitting 2B (Drew), .213 hitting SS (Gregorious) and .203 hitting RF (Beltran). The pitching, esp. the bullpen, has been great, but they need more support.
High A: Tampa lost 3-2 in 13. Eric Ruth 2 R in 7 IP, Luis Niebla still with an ERA of 0.00. Evan Rutckyj 6 K in 3 IP. Solo HR LF Ericson Leonora.
A: 7-2 win for Charleston. Grand slam for CF Dustin Fowler.
