Except for one blip, Ivan Nova pitched a great game, and was backed by homers by Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez in the Yankees’ 4-3 win over Baltimore Wednesday night.
The win puts the Yanks at 52-41, and opens up their AL East division lead to 5 1/2 over Toronto. The Yanks have an afternoon game today (getaway day).
In the first, Ellsbury doubled, Gardner singled him home and after A-Rod made an out, Teixeira homered (24) to make it 3-0. It was Teixeira’s 387th career HR
Nova gave up a 2-run HR in the third, but otherwise was great.
A-Rod hit a 453 ft. bomb in the fifth to make it 4-2. Funny, but in the old, old, stadium, that would have been a one-hopper off the wall for a triple. It was 457 to the old Stadium (1973 and earlier). The HR was #20 of the season for Alex, and #674 of his career.
Andrew Miller had a blip, giving up a HR in the ninth, but held on for the 4-3 win.
