In order to give the rest of the rotation an extra day, Chris Capuano started for the Yanks and was awful, not making it out of the first inning.

After one inning, it was 5-0 Texas. Not good.

Except the Yanks came right back with an eleven-run second inning on their way to a 21-5 win. It keeps the Yanks seven in front and raises their record to 57-42.

Diego Moreno and Adam Warren teamed up for 8 1/3 innings of no-hit relief.

After Capuano gave up 5 runs on three hits and five walks in just 2/3 of an inning, the Yanks went to work.

Headley singled in one and Ryan doubled in two. Ellsbury singled in one. Gardner tied the game with a single. A-Rod doubled in one. By this time they had batted around. Headley singled in one. Didi tripled in three. Ryan doubled in one. Eleven runs in the second, and they weren’t done.

Chris Young hit a grand slam (12th HR of the year) in the third. 15-5.

An error by Texas in the fourth made it 16-5.

In the sixth, Young doubled in a run and Murphy singled in two. 19-5.

In the ninth, Brett Gardner hit a two-run HR (11). Final score, 21-5.

Capuano 2/3 IP, 5 R, 3 H, 5 walks and 0 K. 6.97.
Moreno (W, 1-0, 2.45) 5 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 walk and 5 K.
Warren (1st save) 3 IP, 0R, 0 H, 0 walks and 0 K. 3.40.

Yes, Adam Warren actually got a save.

Some of the boxscore highlights.

Gardner had 3 hits, scored 5 runs and drove in 3.
What a job by Moreno and Warren.  Moreno was just called up for Goody on Tuesday morning.
Young had 3 hits, scored 4 runs and drove in 5.
Didi Gregorius had 4 hits and drove in 3 runs. Don’t look now, but he is now hitting .257.
Brendan Ryan drove in 3 runs.

The Yanks had 19 hits and drew 10 walks.

In addition, Texas made 3 errors. Twice, Jacoby Ellsbury reached on catcher’s interference—by two different catchers.

Some moves yesterday. Shane Victorino goes from Boston to the Angels. David Murphy from Cleveland to the Angels. Jonathan Papelbon from the Phils to the Nats. Ben Zobrist fromt he A’s to KC. David DeJesus from TB to the Angels. Troy Tulowitzki from Colorado to Toronto for Jose Reyes.

In addition, Jennry Mejia of the Mets, who was suspended for 80 games earlier this year for PEDs and who has just pitched in 7 1/3 innings this year for the Mets, got nabbed AGAIN and now has a 162 g. suspension. What a moron.
