The Yanks jumped all over the White Sox today with a 12-3 win that increased their AL East lead to six games.
Before the game, the Yanks had to DL Diego Moreno with an elbow strain and bring back Brandon Pinder.
Jacoby Ellsbury led off the game with a HR (4).
In the fourth, they scored five runs. Didi Gregorius drove in two with a single, Ellsbury drove one in with a SF and Gardner singled in two.
A couple of months ago, I mentioned on one blog that if we could only get Didi to .250 or so, and if he gave us good defense, we’d take it. I was criticized, one person asking how I thought Didi would hit .250… I responded that he’s only 25, give the coaches time to work with him, and be patient. He is now hitting .260. I wonder how the crow tastes?
The red-hot Mark Teixeira homered (29) in the fifth to make it 7-0. It was #392 of his career. Stephen Drew doubled in two more later in the inning to make it 9-0.
After Chicago got a run in the sixth, Drew tripled in two in the top of the seventh to make it 11-1. Drew is still below the Mendoza line at .199, but he does have 13 HR and with the 4-RBI day today, 32 RBI.
A groundout by Ellsbury (3 RBI) made it 12-1 before a couple of late White Sox homers made the final score 12-3.
