Last weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays were rude guests at Yankee Stadium, sweeping the Yankees in their own home.
Today, the Yankees have a chance to return the favor.
Masahiro Tanaka threw a CG 5-hitter, and got HR support by Carlos Beltran and Mark Teixeira as the Yankees won their third straight game, beating Toronto 4-1.
The win increased the Yanks’ AL East leading margin to a game and a half.
Beltran followed his Friday heroics by homering in the first inning Saturday to put the Yanks up 1-0. His 12th HR of this season was #385 of his career, tying Dwight “Dewey” Evans on the all-time list.
In the fifth, Tanaka got out of a bases-loaded, no-0ut jam by yielding only one run. Game tied.
Teixeira untied it in the sixth. HR #31 of the season was #394 of Teix’s career.
Teixeira singled in a run in the top of the eighth to make it 3-1, and Ellsbury’s RBI single in the ninth made it 4-1.
Today, rookie Luis Severino makes his third MLB start, looking for his first MLB victory.
Hopefully the Yanks get the brooms out.
