In his three major league starts, 21-year-old rookie Luis Severino has pitched to an excellent 3.18 ERA, but is 0-2 due to lack of run support.
Yesterday he basically made one mistake, and it cost him as the Yanks lost 3-1 in Toronto. The Yanks are 64-52, and the lead over Toronto in the AL East was shaved to 1/2 a game.
In the third inning, with two outs, Carlos Beltran lost a fly ball in the sun that dropped for a double. A single drove in a run, then Severino served up a 2-run HR to Jose Bautista.
That was the game, for the Yanks only got four hits yesterday. Their only run came on a HR by Jacoby Ellsbury (6) in the sixth inning. Ellsbury had two of the Yanks’ four hits.
Alex Rodriguez has hit a bit of a wall. He is just 7 for 49 so far this month. He was 0 for 3 yesterday with a walk. All three at bats were strikeouts.
Hopefully next time Severino pitches, he gets some support.
