Game 131. Yanks edge Boston, 3-1.

The Yanks took advantage of a Boston error for two unearned runs in defeating the Red Sox 3-1 on Tuesday night. They stayed 1 1/2 games behind Toronto in the AL East because the Blue Jays beat Cleveland on a walk-0ff HR in the 10th.

The Yanks still have a good lead for a wild card spot. They are currently wild card #1, meaning that they, as of now, would host the one-game sudden death wild card game against Texas. The Yanks lead Texas by four games. The Yanks magic # to just make the playoffs, even as the second wild card team, is 27 over the Twins, who are five games behind the Yankees.

Michael Pineda pitched six strong innings for the win.

Before the game, the Yanks brought up C Austin Romine, utility men Dustin Ackley and Jose Pirela, 2B Rob Refsnyder, PR Rico Noel, and relievers Andrew Bailey, Caleb Cotham and James Pazos. Rosters expanded yesterday, and some more players could be coming up soon. They DFA’d OF Tyler Austin and IF Cole Figueroa.

Boston struck first for a run in the third. The Yanks came back with two in the fifth. A-Rod singled and after two strikeouts, Gregorius reached on a two-base error, A-Rod moving to third. A Stephen Drew double put the Yanks ahead.

Brett Gardner homered (13) in the eighth for the insurance run.
