Game 149. Yanks lose to Toronto, 4-2

The Yanks gave up three runs to David Price and the Blue Jays in the first inning last night and couldn’t make up the deficit in losing 4-2.

The loss puts the Yanks (82-67) 3 1/2 behind Toronto with 13 to play. Their lead over Houston for WC #1 dropped to 3 and the magic number to play in the game even as WC #2 remains at 8.

Adam Warren, just brought back to the rotation recently after the injury to Nathan Eovaldi, was on a pitch limit and he reached that early. The three runs he gave up in the first didn’t help and Warren couldn’t last four innings.

The game was over after five batters. Single, HBP, Single for one run, WP, RBI groundout and RBI double and five batters in, it was 3-0 Toronto. Price took it from there.

Toronto added a run in the seventh to go up 4-0.

The Yanks picked up a run in the eighth on an Ellsbury single and one in the ninth on Greg Bird’s 9th HR of the year.
