As stated in my previous post, if Bryan Mitchell is really still being considered for the rotation, that would most likely mean that BOTH Ivan Nova and CC Sabathia would be bullpen bound (and for CC, that means a $25 MM year pitcher in the bullpen). If Mitchell is in the bullpen as a long man/spot starter, then it is between Nova and CC for the last spot in the rotation, granted that the four other spots are taken by, as expected, Tanaka, Pineda, Severino and Eovaldi.
In the Yanks’ 6-4 win over the Twins today, which raised their spring training record to 7-9-2, Nova did not distinguish himself, but Mitchell did make a case for himself.
Nova 4 1/3 IP, 4 R, 5 hits, 3 walks and 2 K.
Mitchell 2 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, o walks and 2 K.
Swarzak 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 walks and 0 K.
Barbato 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks and 1 K.
Cesar Puello’s HR in the 8th was the GW hit. Ronald Torreyes had two hits.
