S.T. Game 23. Did Nova lose out on rotation bid?

I can’t read Joe Girardi’s mind, but it just may be that Ivan Nova lost his bid for the starting rotation with his performance today. He gave up three HR in his 4 2/3 innings of work, giving up six runs (five earned). By contrast, CC Sabathia gave up 2 R in 5 IP on Thursday.

It was probably a tough row to hoe for Nova to beat out CC (who makes $25MM) for the rotation, but those numbers today didn’t help.

The Yanks blew Friday’s spring training game v. Baltimore because of bad bullpen and bad defense and lost 11-10.

The Yanks gave up 5 HR today.

Chris Dinorfia had a 3-run HR for the Yanks. Brett Gardner and Cesar Puello had two hits each, as did Jake Skole.

Up 8-7 going into the bottom of the 9th, Nick Rumbelow gave up a HR to the first batter he faced to tie the game. This has not been a good camp for Rumbelow.

The Yanks did get two runs in the top of the tenth, then blew it, thanks to two errors at 3B by Rob Refsnyder. A throwing error and a fielding error put two on with no one out. A walk and two singles won the game for Baltimore.

Pitching line:

Nova 4 2/3 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 5 H , 3 walks and 5 K. Gave up 3 HR.

Goody 1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 walk and 0 K. Gave up HR.
Pazos 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks and 2 K.
Rumbelow Gave up HR. 1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 2 walk and 0 K.
Tracy (L) 0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 walk and 0 K.
