Jacoby Ellsbury stole home as the Yanks beat Tampa Bay Friday night 6-3.
The Rays got two in the top of the second off of CC, but Brian McCann’s 2-run HR (3) in the bottom of the inning tied it up.
After Tampa Bay got a run in the fourth, the Yanks tied it up in the fifth. Ellsbury and Gregorius singled, and both moved up on a balk. On a 3-2 pitch, Ellsbury took off. The pitch was high, thus ball four on Gardner, and Ellsbury slid under the tag for a steal of home and the tying run.
McCann singled in a run in the sixth to put the Yanks up 4-3.
Ellsbury doubled in two in the eighth to give the Yanks insurance runs.
CC only went 4 2/3, but the bullpen pitched 4 1/3 no-hit innings.
Maybe that exciting gamble by Ellsbury will get the Yanks (6-9) going.
