Yankees top prospect James Kaprielian has been shut down after an MRI revealed inflammation—but no ligament tear—in his pitching elbow. There were some who felt Kaprielian, at High A Tampa, might even hit the Bronx this year. Those plans have been pushed back.
Brandon Pinder will undergo Tommy John surgery, joining Nick Rumbelow as relievers lost for the year due to that.
The Yanks signed Phil Coke to a minor league deal. Coke was with the Yanks in 2009 when they won the WS. He was 0-0, 5.68 in 18 games for the Cubs and Blue Jays last year. For his career, 22-27, 4.20, ERA+ 100. 8 saves. A 162 g. average of 4-4, 4.20.
In 26 postseason games, Coke (soon to be 34) is 0-1, 4.26, 3 saves.
