This is another game where the Yanks needed to win it, and didn’t. Up 2-0 in the seventh, with your ace on the mound, the Yanks lost 4-2 to Boston. As we have seen so much over the past fourteen or so years, David Ortiz killed the Yanks.
A-Rod hit his 4th HR of the year, #691 career, in the second to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead. Brett Gardner singled a run in in the fifth to make it 2-0.
But Tanaka gave up a two-run, two-out double in the seventh to tie the game, and Dellin Betances gave up a 2-run HR to Ortiz in the 8th to lose it. The HR was #507 of Ortiz’ career.
The Yanks are now 8-13. They need to get back to .500, and quickly. In only four of the 21 games played so far have the Yanks scored over four runs. The bats (among other things) have to wake up.
….and as I have been saying for what seems forever, do you ever see anyone back Ortiz off the plate? Not a beanball pitch, but a brushback pitch, come inside, make him move? Keep him honest? … and why not? Pitchers just let him dig in, and he kills you.
Back him off already. Plant one in his butt. Grow a pair.
