Game 28. Bottoms up! Yanks 8, Boston 2.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

These are the games where Nathan Eovaldi can be such a tease. Not long ago, he took a no-hitter deep into the game down in Texas. Yesterday he went 8 innings—innings the Yankees needed because Betances and Miller were unavailable—as the Yanks beat Boston 8-2 Saturday afternoon.

Eovaldi has to be more consistent. The promise is there, but it can’t be fleeting. Now is the time to take the next step and be consistent with performances like this.

The bottom of the Yankees’ lineup came through. #7 hitter Chase Headley is still at .169, still without an extra base hit, but he had two hits yesterday. Maybe he’s finally snapping out of it. #8 hitter Didi Gregorius had 2 hits, including a bases-clearing 3-run double. #9 hitter Austin Romine had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI.

Not to be outdone, #5 hitter Carlos Beltran had 2 RBI.

Sunday’s game is and ESPN night game.

Eovaldi (w, 2-2,  4.78) 8 IP, 2 R, 6  H, 0 walks, 6 K.
Goody 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks, 2 K. 1.93.
