Luis Severino was bad, beaten, booed, injured, and placed on the DL last night.
The 22-year old is experiencing the worst of sophomore slumps.
He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs in the second, and four in the third in dropping to 0-6, 7.46. When he was removed from the game, Severino, who was 5-3, 2.89 in eleven starts last year, was booed.
After the game, it was revealed that he had a mild triceps strain and will be going on the DL. The Yanks are expected to call up Chad Green, who was 2-3, 1.22 at AAA SWB. CC Sabathia is expected to come off the DL soon, as well.
With the 7-1 loss, the Yanks fell to 14-20. Severino and Pineda are a combined 1-10, 6.84 in fourteen starts. There are many problems right now with the team, but you can start there. Take away those two, and the Yanks are 13-10.
The only run the Yanks got came on a second inning HR by Chase Headley (2). Chris Sale, the White Sox’ ace, improved to 8-0, 1.67.
Mark Teixeira’s last HR came on April 13th, over a month ago. He has just 3 RBI in that span. He did have two of the Yanks’ six hits last night.
There are a lot of problems to go around which have contributed to the Yanks’ record. Pineda, Severino and Teix are but three.
Severino (L, 0-6. 7.46) 2 2/3 IP, 7 R, 7 H, 4 walks, 2 K, gave up HR.
Goody 3 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 walks, 3 K. 1.13
Shreve 2 IP. 0 R, 0 H, 2 walks, 1 K. 4.20
Yates 1 Ip, 0 R, 1 H, 1 walk, 1 K,. 2.03.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Goody sent down, since he took one for the team and went 3 1/3. He’ll be unavailable for a few days.
