Game 39. Yanks 2-hit D-backs, win 4-2.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Nathan Eovaldi and the Big 3 of Betances, Miller and Chapman combined on a 2-hitter with 11 K as the Yanks beat Arizona 4-2 Wednesday night.

Jacoby Ellsbury led off the game with a walk and Brett Gardner followed with a 2-run HR (5) to put the Yanks up 1-0.

Arizona scored in the bottom of the first thanks to Chase Headley pulling a rock. He had the runner trapped between third and home but inexplicably threw to first for the out.

Ellsbury singled in a run in the sixth after Eovaldi did his job in getting a bunt down and moving the runner, Headley, up.

Things got a little hairy in the eighth when Miller gave up a HR to cut the Yanks’ lead to 3-2, but the Yanks got an insurance run in the top of the 9th on two singles, a walk and a WP.

The Yanks did drop Teixeira in the lineup—to fifth—as I suggested yesterday. (I’d have dropped him lower, below Castro). Teix still went 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts. He’s got to get going. Otherwise….

Eovaldi (w, 4-2, 4.44) 6 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 walks, 5 K.
Betances (H, 9) 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 walks, 2 K. 2.45
Miller (H, 3)  1 IP, 1 R, 1 h, 0 walks, 3 K. 1.08 Gave up HR
Chapman (S, 4) 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks, 1 K, 1.80

The Yanks are 17-22.
