Brian McCann’s second HR of the game, a three-run shot, tied the game, and two batters later, Didi Gregorius’ 2-run HR won it as the Yanks scored six times in the bottom of the ninth for a 9-7 win over Texas Wednesday night.
Masahiro Tanaka started and struggled. He gave up a run in the second, which the Yanks got back in the bottom of the frame on a Chase Headley HR (5). But then Tanaka gave up four in the third.
In the sixth, Tanaka gave up a HR to Odor, and the Yanks got that run back on a Headley SF.
Luis Cessa gave up a HR to Adrian Beltre (his 425th career HR) in the eighth, and the Yanks got it back on McCann’s first HR of the game.
So it was 7-3 Texas heading into the bottom of the ninth. Rob Refsnyder singled to lead off the inning, and Jacoby Ellsbury walked. Brett Gardner singled to make it 7-4. After A-Rod lined out, McCann tied it with his second HR of the game (12).
Starlin Castro then walked (and he and Didi rarely walk). Didi then lined his game-winning HR (7).
For Luis Cessa, it was his first major league victory.
