Just a combined report today, since there were no major league games yesterday due to the All-Star break, and very few minor league games either, as MLB wants to showcase the All-Star Game.
First of all, I did NOT watch the Home Run Derby (won by Giancarlo Stanton with an amazing total of 61 HR). I can’t stand Chris Berman going back-back-back all the time (please give it up or retire, Chris), and with Stanton bopping 61—all the worse. Besides, it kind of bores me. By going for the HR, some players have messed up their swings for the second half of the season.
By the way, I do NOT like the fact that the winning league of the All-Star Game gets home field advantage for the World Series. I find it a ridiculous ruling.
A-Rod is said to be working out at 1B during the break. The experiment failed last year, but it may be A-Rod’s only way (until Beltran’s hammy heals, enabling Beltran to go to RF and not DH) to get into the lineup. Teix’s knee won’t let him play every day, and as of now, Refsnyder is the backup 1B.
AAA: No games yesterday or today. All-Star Game Wednesday night.
AA: See AAA. The same applies.
High A: Tampa lost 5-3. Yelfrey Ramirez 6 IP, 2 R, 1 Earned, 4 H, 1 walk, 9 K. OF Mason Williams, DH Trey Amburgey, OF Zack Zehner and C Francisco Diaz two hits each. No games today.
Low A: No games. Charleston does play tonight.
