Game 101. Astros beat Yanks, 4-1.

There is a difference when Masahiro Tanaka goes on four days rest or gets an extra day, and that difference is stark. Wednesday night, on four days rest, he was off and the Yanks lost 4-1 to Houston.

When he gets that extra day, he’s lights out.

Tanaka gave up a run in the second, after he walked back-to-back batters to help put himself into trouble. He gave up three runs in the third, highlighted by a 2-run HR by Colby Rasmus.

The Yanks’ only run came via Brian McCann’s 15th HR of the season, hit in the fourth inning.

The Yanks managed just five hits and struck out 15x.

Tanaka (L, 7-3, 3.16) 5 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 2 walks, 4 K. Gave up 1 HR.
Warren 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 walks, 0 K. 5.75 combined ERA (Cubs/Yanks)
Severino 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 walk, 3 K. 7.05
