Game 106. Mets down Yanks, 7-1.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Masahiro Tanaka got the extra day of rest that usually makes him more effective, but the way Jacob DeGrom pitched for the Mets, it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference anyway. Tanaka gave up a career-high seven runs.

Didi Gregorius’ ninth inning HR  (12) was the only run the Yanks managed in a 7-1 loss to the Mets that put them back at .500 at 53-53.

Tanaka gave up a 2-run HR in the third, a solo shot in the fifth, and that was all the Mets needed. The roof fell in during the seventh, when the Mets scored four runs to put the game  away.

Rumors are that Gary Sanchez will be called up today, and that Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge will quickly follow.

Tanaka (L, 7-4, 3.46) 6 1/3 IP, 7 R, 8 H, 0 walks, 4 K. Gave up 2 HR.
Bleier 2/3 Ip, 0 R, 2 H, 0 walks, 1 K. 3.55.
Swarzak 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 walks, 0 K. 5.40.
