Game 112. Yanks fall, 5-3.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

After a couple nice relief outings, it was hoped that Luis Severino would carry that into his next start, but it didn’t happen. Boston knocked him out in the fifth inning and the Yanks lost 5-3. The Yankees’ flirtation with the .500 mark continues. The loss put them at 56-56.

Before the game, the Yanks made a couple of moves, getting Tommy Layne from Boston off the waiver wire, and also Blake Parker off of the waiver wire from the Mariners.

The Yanks built a 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Chase Headley in the second and an RBI single by Brian McCann in the third, but Boston tied it with two in the third and scored three in the fifth.

The Yanks got one in the ninth on a bases loaded walk to Ellsbury, but Teix then struck out looking to end the game.

Severino (L, 1-7, 6.42) 4 1/3 IP, 5 R, 7 H, 0 walks, 3 K.
Layne 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 walks, 1 K. 3.60 (Bos/NYY)
Swarzak 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 walk, 1 K. 4.97
Shreve 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks, 0 K. 4.01.

A-Rod didn’t play and isn’t expected to Wednesday as well. Just Thursday and Friday (weather permitting) then that’s it. It may be the only time A-Rod heard the chant “We want A-Rod” in Boston.
