After 4 1/2 innings, things looked good for the Yanks. They had a 6-0 lead, built mostly by two home runs by Gary Sanchez. (The REAL Sanchise, not Mark?)
Then came a rain delay, and everything changed. Michael Pineda, who pitched five shutout innings, had to be removed after the delay, and the Yanks’ bullpen was awful in turning a 6-0 lead into a 12-6 loss.
Didi Gregorius homered in the first (16) to give the Yanks a 1-0 lead. Sanchez’ solo HR in the second made it 2-0.
Sanchez’ second HR of the game (4), a 3-run shot, made it 5-0 in the fourth. After the rain delay was over, Didi got an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
But Anthony Swarzak, replacing Pineda, gave up four runs in the sixth, and in the eighth, Toronto got 8 runs off of Adam Warren (4) and Chasen Shreve (4). Ugh.
Earlier in the day, the Yankees received bad news on Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi will need two surgeries on his elbow. He tore the flexor tendon off of the bone, and also tore his UCL. Eovaldi, who had Tommy John surgery before, will need it again as one of the two surgeries. He’ll miss the rest of this year and all of 2017. He is a free agent after 2017, and after this, would be a risky sign. It’s possible that not only his Yankee career, but his career, period, could be over.

You wish Girardi would have just kept Layne & Clippard in there.
The loss puts the Yanks at 61-58.
