The Yankees are off today, but it is a good time to look at September and the road ahead. In so doing, I’ll publish the schedule for the last 30 games. Put it this way. If the Yanks make the playoffs, it’ll be because they earned it in September.
They are 2 1/2 out of the final wild card spot. They need to jump over some teams to get there. At 69-63, they basically have to win 2 of 3 from here on out to make the playoffs. 20-10 gives them 89-73.
But who do they have to beat? Here is the rest of the schedule:
Note that they play mostly Toronto, Boston and Baltimore, teams ahead of them in the standings. They also have the Dodgers, who have a better record.
The only team they play who has a worse record is Tampa Bay.
Sept. 2-4 at Baltimore
Sept. 5-7, home vs. Toronto
Sept. 8-11 home vs.Tampa Bay.
Sept. 12-14 home vs. the Dodgers
Sept. 15-18 at Boston.
Sept. 19 OFF, the only off day.
Sept. 20-22 at Tampa Bay.
Sept. 23-26 at Toronto
Sept. 27-29 home vs. Boston
Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 home vs. Baltimore.
If they make the playoffs, they would have EARNED it.
