S.T. Game 7. Mitchell, Ellsbury lead Yanks to 8-7 win.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

I kind of wish these games counted.

After 7 spring training games, the Yanks have a 6-1 record, and the only loss was when they tied the game in the top of the 9th only to lose it in the bottom of the 9th.

This evening, Bryan Mitchell (competing for a starting spot) pitched three scoreless, hitless innings and Jacoby Ellsbury doubled and homered to lead the Yanks to an 8-7 win. They had an 8-0 lead after six and hung on.

Starlin Castro had 2 hits and an RBI but made one of the Yanks’ three errors, the other two coming by Donovan Solano.

Austin Romine had two hits and Gleyber Torres, the top prospect, had a hit. Torres didn’t start the game but is now 4 for 5 for the spring.

Mitchell (W) 3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 walk, 2 K.
Betances 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 walk, 1 K.
Montgomery 2 1/3 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 1 walk, 2 K.
Feyereisen 2/3 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 0 walks, 0 K. Gave up 2 HR, back to back. A 3-run shot (2 runs charged to Montgomery) and a solo one.
Hissong (H) 1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 walks, 2 K. Gave up a 2-run HR.
Camarena (S) 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 walk, 1 K.

I see more trouble for Met David Wright. I think it may be time for him to retire.
