S.T. Game 17. Tanaka perfect in Yanks’ 7-1 win.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Masahiro Tanaka retired all 12 batters he faced, the first 6 by strikeout, as the Yanks beat Detroit today 7-1 to improve their spring training record to 14-3.

Gary Sanchez had a 2-run HR and an RBI single, Matt Holliday a 3-Run HR and prospect Gleyber Torres a solo HR.

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, and Austin Romine, Greg Bird and prospect Miguel Andujar all doubled.

Bryan Mitchell pitched four strong innings. I think he’ll get one of the two rotation spots up for grabs, and I think Adam Warren is too valuable as a long man to make the rotation. That leaves the remaining rotation spot for up grabs among Luis Severino (who hasn’t pitched well enough to claim it yet), Chad Green and Luis Cessa. We’ll see if my hunch is correct.

Tanaka (w) 4 Ip, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks, 7 K.
Mitchell (h) 4 Ip, 1 R, 3 H, 1 walk, 2 K.
Graham 1 Ip, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks, 0 K.
