Minor League Report. Washouts, a battle for a pitching spot, and the top pitching prospect is hurt.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

AAA SWB and AA Trenton were both rained out tonight.

A few days ago, James Kaprielian was scheduled to start tonight for High A Tampa. That was cancelled because with the bad weather up north, where Jordan Montgomery was supposed to start for SWB and Chad Green for Trenton in their bids to be the #5 in the Yankees’ rotation, both were sent to Tampa. So Montgomery started for Tampa tonight with Green backing him up. More on that later.

Today it came out that Kaprielian, who missed just about all of 2016 due to an arm injury, who came back for the Instructional and Arizona Fall leagues and who was nursed through spring training, is experiencing elbow pain and is scheduled for an MRI. Hoo boy. Hopefully not another lost year.

As for Tampa, they lost 2-1 but in picking who was better, Montgomery or Green in order to clarify who should be #5 in the Yankees’ rotation, it’s a tough call.

Montgomery 5 IP, 1 R, UNEARNED, 3 H, 1 walk and 9 K.
Green (L) 4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 walks, 5 K. Gave up HR in the 9th which lost the game.

CF Tito Polo had 3 of Tampa’s 5 hits and the only RBI.

Low A Charleston lost 6-3. Top prospect CF Blake Rutherford 1 for 3, walked twice, SB. Nick Green knocked out in the third inning. 4 Runs in 2 1/3. Albert Abreu 4 IP, 1 R, 6 K. David Sosebee 2 2/3 IP, 1 R, 6 K.
