The Yanks got five runs in the sixth and another five in the eighth in defeating the Pirates 11-5 to go to 11-6 on the season.
Michael Pineda gave up solo homers in the first and fourth, and Pittsburgh added another run in the fifth to go up 3-0.
Starlin Castro tied the game with a 3-run HR (4). After Castro’s HR, Aaron Judge doubled, Greg Bird was HBP and Austin Romine singled to load the bases. Ronald Torreyes doubled in two runs to make it 5-3 Yanks.
What can you say about the jobs Romine and Torreyes are doing filling in for the injured Sanchez and Gregorius? Romine had two hits yesterday, Torreyes had four.
The Pirates came right back with two in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up at five.
With two out in the top of the eighth, Romine reached on an error and Torreyes singled. Chris Carter, pinch-hitting for P Dellin Betances, hit his first HR (1) of the season to make it 8-5. Ellsbury then reached on another Pirates’ error, and a three-base error to boot. A wild pitch enabled him to score as Pittsburgh had one sloppy inning. Doubles by Hicks and Headley made it 10-5.
Aaron Judge hit a massive 457-ft. HR, his sixth (6) HR of the season, in the ninth to finish off the scoring at 11-5. Judge’s at bats are becoming can’t miss. Already there is talk of putting him into this year’s HR derby to see how far he can hit one. Some of his batting practice shots have been incredible.
