Game 20. Sweep at Fenway. Tanaka shuts out Boston, 3-0.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Masahiro Tanaka pitched a CG, 3-hit shutout in besting Boston and Chris Sale (a Yankee killer) 3-0 on Thursday night.

With the win, the Yanks go to 13-7 after sweeping the two games at Fenway. Another game was rained out and rescheduled.

The Yanks get Didi Gregorius back tomorrow. How about a hand for Ronald Torreyes, who hit .308-1-13 in Didi’s absence? He had two hits tonight. The only bone I can pick with Torreyes is no walks. But what a great job he did. Pete Kozma will most be likely be let go for Didi’s return.

Same for Austin Romine, who has filled in admirably in Sanchez’ absence.

Sanchez starts rehab w/SWB on Tuesday.

The Yanks got a run in the fourth when Hicks (2 hits) singled, went to second on a groundout, third on a PB and scored on a SF by Holliday.

And so it stayed until the ninth. Great pitching duel.

In the ninth, Hicks singled, went to second on a single by Headley and scored on a single by Holliday (2 RBI tonight). Both runners moved up on the throw. Castro singled in a run to make it 3-0.

Hicks 2 hits, scored 2 runs, doing great after he was so disappointing last year. 2 hits, 2 RBI for Holliday.

2 hits, RBI for Castro. 2 hits for Torreyes.

Tanaka (w, 3-1, 4.20) 9 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 walks, 3 K.

Now, as for that ERA. Take away that opening day disaster, when he lost and gave up 7 runs in 2 2/3 IP, since then he is 3-0, 2.30.

So taking away that first game, he has been the Tanaka we expected and need.
