Game 49. Some “Holliday Gardening”. Both go deep twice in Yanks’ 8-3 win.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Both Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday homered twice, and Aaron Judge had a 2-run double as the Yanks beat the Orioles 8-3 on Tuesday night.

If I would have told you that by the end of May, Matt Holliday would have 11 HR, you would have said nice pickup of the 37 year old veteran. He has something left in the tank.

But if I told you that Brett Gardner would have 11 HR by the end of May, and that he wouldn’t get his first HR until April 29, having hit 11 in 1 month and 1 day, I think you’d be shocked.

Gardner led off the game with a HR (10) and two batters later, Holliday followed with his 10th to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead three batters in.

In the second, Didi Gregorius doubled and scored on an Aaron Hicks single. 3-0.

In the third, Holliday hit his second HR of the game (11) to make it 4-0, and after an out, Judge singled. After another out, Gregorius walked and Chase Headley singled to make it 5-0.

In the fourth, Gardner hit his second HR of the game (11) to make it 6-0. Sanchez then singled, Holliday struck out, and after Castro singled, Judge doubled in 2 runs to make it 8-0.

The Orioles got one in the sixth and two in the eighth to make the final 8-3.

Every starter got a hit except for 1B Rob Refsnyder.

Gardner 2 for 5, 2 solo HR.
Holliday 2 for 5, 2 solo HR.
Castro 2 for 5.
Judge 2 for 4, 2 RBI.
Hicks 2 for 4, 1 RBI.
Headley 2 for 5, 1 RBI.

Severino (W, 4-2, 2.93) 6 1/3 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 1 W, 8 K.
Layne 1/3 IP, 0 r, 0 H, 1 w, 0 K. 7.71
Warren 1/3 IP, 0 r, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. 2.70
Mitchell 2/3 IP, 2 R, both unearned, 2 H, 1 W, 1 K. 5.54
Clippard 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. 1.64

The win puts the Yanks at 30-19.
