The Yanks made a deal that maybe will solve the problem they have been having at first base this year.
They traded LHP Tyler Webb, who just made his MLB debut with the Yanks not even three weeks ago, to Milwaukee for AAA 1B Garrett Cooper.
Webb, just about to turn 27, went 0-0, 4.50 in seven games. His MLB debut happened on June 24.
Cooper is 26. If Gary Cooper played in “Pride of the Yankees”, only time will tell if Garrett Cooper will be a Pride of the Yankees.
Cooper is big, 6″6″ 230 lbs. He is a righty hitter having a great season for AAA. He will report to SWB. In 75 games this season, he is hitting .366-17-82. The PCL, however, is a hitter’s league.
Still, those are great numbers. In his prior minor league career, he didn’t show as much power, but he is a .305 career minor league hitter.
In 111 games at AAA, he is .337-22-102. Nice.
Maybe the Yanks found a diamond in the rough. We’ll see.
Meanwhile, one potential Yankee trade target is off the books. The White Sox traded Jose Quintana to the Cubs for 4 minor league prospects. Rumor is they wanted the Yanks to give up Torres & Frazier for Quintana.
