Masahiro Tanaka, who has struggled so badly most of this season, wasn’t too bad tonight, making only one big mistake, but the Yanks were shut out for the first time this season in losing 3-0.
Aaron Judge, struggling lately, was robbed of a 2-run HR by CF Jackie Bradley. Judge hit one towards the triangle in Fenway, but Bradley came down with it. If he doesn’t come down with it, and especially if it as hit four feet to the right, Bradley wouldn’t have been able to reach that far into the bullpen, and Judge has HR #31.
Tanaka gave up a 2-run HR to Mookie Betts in the third to put Boston up 2-0. Boston got another run in the sixth.
Yankees’ 1B Garrett Cooper got his first MLB hit.
Not to make excuses, for Kimbrel is a great relief pitcher, but this is something I found odd. I am just saying this because maybe you think it odd too. When showing closeups of Kimbrel saving the game for Boston, his arms were dripping wet. It’s after 11 PM in Boston, and it isn’t exactly 100 degrees. Why in the world are his arms dripping wet? Hopefully from sweat and nothing else, but still?
The loss puts the Yanks at 47-43.
Tanaka (L, 7-9, 5.33) 7 2/3 IP, 3 R, 8 H, 0 W, 9 K. Gave up 1 HR.
Shreve 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. 2.92
HOF broadcaster Bob Wolff passed away at the age of 96. As someone who majored in broadcasting, there are a LOT of broadcasters I do not have too much respect for nowadays, but Wolff was one of the greats.
