Luis Severino stamped himself as the staff ace, Todd Frazier hit his first HR as a Yankee, and Didi Gregorius remained red-hot in the Yankees 9-5 win over Cincy today.
The win puts the Yanks at 53-46 on the season.
Clint Frazier got an RBI single in the third to put the Yanks up 1-0.
In the fifth, Clint Frazier got another RBI single. 2-0. Umm……there does not seem much room for Jacoby Ellsbury, the $21MM man who went 0 for 4 today and who is, currently, the most expensive PR in baseball history.
A two base error and a Headley single made it 3-0 in the sixth. After Todd Frazier was HBP, an overturned challenge loaded the bases. Ronald Torreyes made it 4-0 w/an RBI groundout.
Cincinnati got two unerarned runs in the top of the 7th.
So, 4-2. The Yankees got 5 in the bottom of the seventh to salt the game away. Clint Frazier walked. Gary Sanchez doubled him home, went to third on the throw. 5-2. Holliday singled to make it 6-2. Didi Gregorius homered (16) to make it 8-2. For Didi, 4 HR in his last 3 games. After an out, Todd Frazier hit his first Yankee HR and #17 on the season to make it 9-2.
In the eighth, Luis Cessa gave up a 3-run HR that cut the gap to 9-5, the final score.
Severino (w, 7-4, 3.03) 7 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 W, 9 K.
Cessa 1 IP, 3 R, 1 H, 1 W, 2 K. Gave up 1 Hr. 5.40.
Robertson 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. 2.65
With the Cessa usage today, is that a foreboding? Smith, Mitchell or perhaps Sonny Gray the next time around instead of Cessa?
