Chase Headley continued his hot hitting as of late (3 hits, 2 RBI), and Aaron Judge homered (34) as the Yanks beat the Tigers 7-3 to improve their record to 57-47. With the win, they remain in first place in the AL East by 1/2 game over Boston.
Luis Severino struggled to get through five innings, tossing 116 pitches, but got the win. He gave up a run in the fourth, but the Yanks got four in the bottom of the inning.
Judge walked, Sanchez reached on an error and Holliday walked. Headley doubled in two, then Todd Frazier singled in two. (Todd Frazier was robbed of a 2-run HR later in the game).
In the fifth, Judge’s 34th HR of the year made it 5-1.
The Tigers cut it to 5-2 in the sixth.
In the seventh, Ellsbury was HBP, Clint Frazier tripled in a run, and Frazier scored on a SF by Sanchez.
The Tigers scored in the ninth, but the final was 7-3 Yankees.
