Game 65. 9th straight win puts Yanks 12 up. Hicks’ 3 RBI key 4-0 shutout of Blue Jays.

Clay Holmes broke Mariano Rivera’s scoreless inning streak mark as he combined with starter Jameson Taillon and reliever Michael King to shutout Toronto, 4-0, Saturday.

Holmes gave up a run on opening day and hasn’t given up a run since.

Aaron Hicks’ bases-loaded double was the key blow.

The win put the Yanks (49-16) 12 games up on second place Toronto in the AL East, and was the Yankees’ 9th win in a row. Since a 7-6 start, the Yankees have won 42 of their last 52 games. Astounding.

In the top of the fourth inning, with one out, Anthony Rizzo walked. Gleyber Torres singled Rizzo to second, and one out later, Isiah Kiner-Falefa (IKF) singled to load the bases. Hicks then ripped a bases-clearing double into the right field corner to make the score 3-0 Yankees.

The Yanks tacked on another run in the sixth when Torres led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a flyout, then scored on a double by IKF.

Torres 2 hits
Kiner-Falefa 2 hits, RBI
Hicks 2 hits, 3 RBI

Taillon (W, 8-1) 5 2/3 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 2 W, 8 K. 2.70
King (H, 10) 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 W, 3 K. 2.41
Holmes 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. 0.28
