Game 106. First inning troubles doom Cole and Yanks, 7-3.

Gerrit Cole has had first inning blues this season (like when the first 3 hitters all hit HR off him in Minnesota) and that bugaboo bit him and the Yanks (70-36) again Wednesday afternoon in a 7-3 loss to Seattle at the Stadium.

Cole gave up 3 HR and 6 runs in the top of the first. He settled in after that, but the damage was done. Against Luis Castillo, the Yankees trade target who wound up being traded from the Reds to the Mariners, those six runs were more than enough.

The first five batters went single, walk, HR, HR, single before Cole recorded an out. After the out, another HR. Ugly beginning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Andrew Benintendi led off with a walk and one out later, stole second. With two out, Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled to put the Yanks on the board. Kyle Higashioka followed with a double, but IKF was thrown out at the plate on the play.

Wandy Peralta gave up a HR in the top of the seventh and Seattle went up 7-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, IKF got a two-out single, and Higashioka followed with his sixth HR of the season. 7-3.

The Yanks only had five hits in the game.

Kiner-Falefa 2 hits, RBI
Higashioka 2 hits, 2 RBI. 2-run HR (6).
