A concerning thing is that some Yankees’ prospects are off to very slow starts. In fact, there is an article (I think from NJ.com) on the internet about the regression of Jasson Dominguez, the Martian.

Ken Waldichuk isn’t one of them, however. Read on.

S.T. Game 2. Yanks Tie O’s, 3-3. C hurt. Trade rumors.

The Yanks (0-1-1 in spring training) tied Baltimore 3-3 on Saturday.

Newly acquired C Ben Rortvedt will probably miss the start of the season due to an oblique strain. This opens the door for Rodolfo Duran (who homered in Game 1), David Freitas (who homered yesterday) Max McDowell or Rob Brantly to start the season as Kyle Higashioka’s backup catcher unless the Yanks trade for one.

Speaking of trades, Miguel Andujar is on the block. He’s blocked in the Bronx by Rizzo, Gallo, Donaldson, LeMahieu and Kiner-Falefa. I’d expect him to be dealt soon.

Besides a 2-run HR by Freitas, the Yanks got a solo HR by Josh Donaldson yesterday.

Pitching:

Waldichuk 3 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 0 W, 1 K. a top pitching prospect
Holmes (BS) 2 2/3 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 3 W, 3 K.
Barclay 2 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 W, 1 K.
Greene 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 W, 1 K.

Luis Severino is supposed to pitch today in the Yanks first home S.T. game.

Covid concerns postpone Yankees’ Game/Minor League Report

The Yankees/Red Sox game on Thursday night was postponed due to Covid concerns, and the whole four-game weekend series could be in jeopardy. Things could get even worse for MLB. This could affect each team.

Besides Jonathan Loaisiga, who tested positive before the All-Star Game, Nestor Cortes, Jr. and Wandy Peralta have also tested positive. The Yanks made roster substitutions, reinstating Zack Britton off of the IL, bringing up Trey Amburgey, and putting Hoy Jun Park on the taxi squad.

Then it was reported that Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela and Kyle Higashioka are in protocol. First reports are that they are positive too, but further testing is needed to confirm.

Since Judge was just a starter and played at the All-Star Game, if he was/is positive, then every team has a problem, especially with its All-Stars, and MLB is then in a tizzy.

Hoo Boy.

Minor League Report.

Futures/MLB draft/Minor League Report.

First the Futures game. Two Yankees prospects were in the game. CF Jasson Dominguez went 0 for 3. Lineout, two strikeouts. Dominguez is just 18, and just started his career about two weeks ago (he is in the Florida Complex League). He is the first player to be in the Futures game without even having played in a full-season league.

Pitcher Luis Medina can hit the high 90’s/ low 100’s with his fastball. He needs control and command. He pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two, but also gave up two hits and a walk.

The MLB draft is on. The Yankees’ first round pick was Trey Sweeney, a lefty-hitting SS.

AAA: SWB (37-20) lost 9-8 in 10 innings. RF Ryan LaMarre 2 hits. DH Socrates Brito 3 hits. LF Greg Allen 2 hits. 3B Armando Alvarez 2 RBI. SS Kyle Holder 2 hits, RBI. 1B Brandon Wagner 2 hits, 5 RBI, a 2-run HR.

DH Everson Pereira 3 hits. 1B Andres Chaparro 2 for 2, walked 3X, 3 RBI. C Carlos Narvaez 2 hits, RBI.

Game 74. Yanks crush KC, 8-1.

A lot of times this year, Yankees’ starter Jameson Taillon has left us, well, wanting to take a good strong drink of Jameson. (Sorry, couldn’t resist). He wasn’t very good.

Things were different yesterday. Taillon turned in perhaps his best performance as a Yankee in an 8-1 win over KC.

With the win, the Yanks are 40-34, 3rd in the AL East, and 4 games behind Tampa Bay, 3 1/2 behind Boston. The Yanks are in Boston for a 3-game set this weekend and can make up some ground. Not only that, they could get some revenge. Boston swept the Yanks in a 3-game series at the Stadium three weeks ago.

The Yankees hit three homers yesterday, the first coming by Aaron Judge in the bottom of the first. Judge’s 16th HR of the season gave the Yanks a 1-0 lead.

After Judge homered, both Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton singled. A flyout by Luke Voit moved Sanchez to third, and Rougned Odor got an infield hit to make it 2-0, Yankees.

After Taillon escaped a man-on-third, one out situation in the top of the second without giving up a run, the Yanks scored in the bottom half when with one out, Tyler Wade walked, then stole second. D.J. LeMahieu walked, and Judge, who had been in a slump, singled in Wade to make it 3-0.

Luke Voit continued to be hot right off the injured list, hitting his second HR in three games since coming off that list (in addition to two other balls that were almost homers). Voit’s 3rd HR of the season made it 4-0 after three innings.

Taillon gave up KC’s only run in the fifth. He pitched into the seventh.

In the bottom of the sixth, the red-hot Gary Sanchez struck again. Sanchez followed a single by LeMahieu and double by Judge with a 3-run HR, his 13th of the season, to make it 7-1.

The final run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Judge walked, and two wild pitches moved him to third. He scored on a single by Stanton.

Judge 3 for 3, 2 walks. 2 RBI. Solo HR (16)
Sanchez 2 hits, 3 RBI. 3-run HR (13)
Stanton 3 hits, RBI
Odor 3 hits, RBI
Voit solo HR (3)
