Minor league report. Tampa tosses a 1-hitter. Big day for Hess at Low A.

header_1.jpg

I am amazed how, 10 games into the season, some Yankees’ fans are criticizing Aaron Boone and Phillies’ fans Gabe Kapler. Some of the Phillies’ players are already ripping Kapler.

These are new rookie managers. 10 games? Really?

As far as Boone goes, I haven’t seen anything to criticize him on yet. For one thing, he can’t control the injuries that have hampered him. For another, it’s not his fault some guys haven’t performed yet (Sanchez 2 for 32 and Stanton 7 for 42 with 20 strikeouts, also the bullpen has been shaky and that was supposed to be a strength).

Give it more time. Criticizing Boone after 10 games? Really?

Minor League Report: Tampa comes back to win game 1 of playoffs, 8-6 in 10. Hurricane Irma disrupts FSL.

Because of Hurricane Irma, there will be NO Championship series for the Florida State League. The winners of each of the first round series will be declared co-champions. As for Tampa’s series, Game 2 will be played today. If Tampa wins, they are co-champions.

If they lose, Game 3 will IMMEDIATELY follow, and the winner of that game will be declared a co-champion.

The AAA, AA and Low A series will all begin today.  Thank goodness no hurricane to disrupt things there….

Minor League Report.

cropped-the-stadium-facade.jpg

One thing I would like to remind you about.

This sport of baseball is a crazy sport. Even though the Yanks play with a 25-man roster for most of the year, rosters can expand on Sept. 1.  Other sports don’t do this. Now, how many players will the Yanks leave down in the minors to compete for minor league titles and how many players will they bring up to expand the MLB roster to compete for the playoffs, who knows. But this is one reason I do the minor league report. Once rosters expand, who will be added? That way, you have an idea. For example, remember the big HR Slade Heathcott (now with the Giants AA/AAA) hit a couple of years back that helped the Yanks get in the playoffs?

AAA: SWB (73-41) won 5-0. 2 hits, solo HR 2B Donovan Solano. SS Cito Culver 2 hits, rbi. RF Jake Cave 2 hits, RBI. Neither Aaron Hicks or Tyler Austin, both rehabbing, played.
