The Minors, 6-27-14.

High A: 1B Greg Bird GW hit in the bottom of the 9th as Tampa won 2-1. Miguel Sulbaran 7 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 walks & 7 K.

The Minors.

The Yanks were off today, so we look at minor league action.

The Yanks did give a MLB contract to Chris LeRoux.

S.T. Game 19. Yanks no-hit down in Panama, lose 5-0

The Yanks have a split squad in Panama to play two games and to honor Mo.

Tonight, that team got no hits in losing 5-0.

Adam Warren started and pitched well in his bid for the #5 starter spot. 4 1/3 IP, 1R, 2 H, 0 walks and 6 K. Great job.

Chase Whitley gave up a run in an inning of work.

Matt Daley, 1 2/3, no runs. Brian Coello, who has stunk this spring (sorry, being honest), 3 R, 2 ER in 1/3 of an inning. Coello’s ERA this spring? 33.00

Yoshinori Tateyama,  no runs in 2/3 and Jim Miller no runs in 1 IP.

The Yanks record this spring is now 8-9-2.

The lineup did have Gardner, Jeter, Beltran, Soriano, Sanchez, Cervelli  & Almonte in it.

S.T. Game 14. Yanks, Tigers tie at 7

Hiroki Kuroda wasn’t good today, and the Yanks staged a late comeback to tie the Tigers 7-7 in a 10-inning affair.

The Yanks’ S.T. record so far is 7-5-2.

Kuroda really struggled, going 3 2/3, giving up 6 R, 10 H, 0 walks and 1 K. Chase Whitley went 1/3, scoreless.

Shawn Kelley, Jose Campos, Fred Lewis, and Danny Burawa then each pitched a scoreless inning. Robert Coello gave up an unearned run in his inning of work. Yoshinori Tateyama pitched a scoreless inning.

There are rumors that Francisco Cervelli could be dealt because of the Yanks’ backup C surplus (Gary Sanchez was optioned to AA Trenton today, and the Yanks still have Austin Romine and John Ryan Murphy for backup or AAA). Cervelli hit 2 HR today. He is 8 for 16 for the spring with 3 HR. After being suspended 50 games last year for the Biogenesis thing, I can hear the snickers about his S.T. numbers.

Zoilo Almonte was 2 for 2, including a 2-run HR that tied the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Yangervis Solarte is having an INCREDIBLE spring training. Another hit and his batting average is .632 this spring.

Zelous Wheeler had 2 RBI.

Ervin Santana finally found a home. 1 yr. deal w/Atlanta for $14.1 MM.

S.T. Game 8. Rays edge Yanks 5-4.

Tampa Bay beat the Yanks today 5-4 to drop the Yanks S.T. record to 4-4.

To show you how much S.T. means, consider this. Chase Whitley is 0-2, 18.00 and Robert Coello 0-2, 48.60 for the Yanks. There are your losses. Both had a very slim shot to make the team. You can consider that shot gone now.

Adam Warren started and gave up 1 R in 2 1/3.  Dellin Betances, who does have a shot to make the team, followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Coello then came in and stunk, giving up 4 R in 1/3 of an inning and taking the loss. Matt Daley pitched 2/3 scoreless. He was followed by Yoshinori Tateyama, who pitched two scoreless innings and Jim Miller, who tossed a scoreless frame.

Brett Gardner drove in two runs, and Eduardo Nunez was 3 for 3. Russ Canzler and Kelly Johnson each had an RBI. Yangervis Solarte had another hit and is 8 for 12 for the spring.

Masahiro Tanaka is scheduled to start and go three innings for the Yanks vs. the Phils tomorrow (1 p.m., MLB). Alfonso Soriano and Mark Teixeira are scheduled to get into a game for the first time this spring. Soriano has been battling the flu, and Teix is coming off that wrist injury that cost him almost all of last season.

S.T. Game 6. Nova excels in Yanks 4-2 win.

Ivan Nova pitched three shutout innings, giving up no hits, in the Yanks 4-2 win over Washington today. It was the Yanks’ fourth straight spring training win.

Nova threw strikes on 31 of his 35 pitches, and struck out four.

David Robertson followed with his first action of the spring. He hit a batter, got a DP and got an out.

Shawn Kelley and Dan Burawa each gave up a run in one inning of work.

Robert Coello, Yoshinori Tateyama and Jim Miller each pitched a scoreless inning.

Kelly Johnson and Corban Joseph had RBIs. Derek Jeter is still without a hit this spring. He went 0 for 3 and made an error.

Francisco Cervelli and Zoilo Almonte had two hits each.

Joe Namath threw out the first ball and served as Yanks’ “co-manager” for the day.

The Orioles signed Johan Santana to a minor-league deal.

S.T. Game 2. Yanks lose 8-2.

Derek Jeter played and went 0 for 2 but showed no signs of that ankle injury being a problem.

David Phelps went 2 IP, striking out 4 and he gave up a solo HR.  2 ip,  1 R, 2 H, 0 walks and 4 K.

Jim Miller gave up a run in 1 2/3 IP.

Bob Coello  http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/coellro01.shtml  had a terrible outing. 5 R in 1/3 IP.  He was 2-2, 3.71 for the Angels in 16 games last year.

John Ryan Murphy had an RBI and Kelly Johnson had an RBI double.
