AAA: SWB (82-67) lost 8-1 in the next-to-last day of the season to be eliminated from the playoffs. Even had they won last night, Durham’s win would have eliminated them anyway.
SS Anthony Volpe 2 hits. #1 prospect .250-21-65, 49 SB
Banda (L, 0-3) 2 1/3 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 W, 2 K. 1 HBP. 6.14 Zach Greene 2/3 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 W, 1 K. 1 balk. 3.42 Miguel Castro 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 W, 3 K. 0.00 REHAB Duffey 1 2/3 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 0 W, 4 K. 10.50 Brito 1 1/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 W, 2 K. The Yanks picked up guys like Banda, Duffey and Barnes because of depth and prior MLB experience. None impressed while with SWB.
AA: Somerset evened up their Eastern League finals series with a 9-2 win. The third and deciding game will be tonight for the Eastern League Championship.
Yoendrys Gomez (WIN) 5 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 W, 6 K. Gave up 1 HR. #12 prospect. Loseke 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 W, 4 K. Ramirez 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 2 K. Espinal 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 W, 1 K.
Although not announced, my guess is that Somerset’s starter for the deciding game tonight will be Clayton Beeter, the Yanks’ #9 prospect, who they got in the Gallo trade.
Low A: Tampa (61-66) were supposed to play a DH. One game was postponed. They lost the one they did play, 9-8, in 10 innings. C Juan Crisp 2 hits, 3 RBI. 1st game at Low A. 1B Anthony Garcia 2 hits, 2 RBI
Y. Castro 2 2/3 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 W, 4 K. Gave up 1 HR. 3.59 Will Brian 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 4 K. 0.00 First game at Low A. Only one of the Yankees’ top minor league affiliates played on Labor Day yesterday.
AAA SWB (69-60) lost 4-3 in 10 innings.
SS Anthony Volpe 3 hits, RBI. Yankees’ #1 prospect. Overall stats (AA/AAA): .260-18-62, 45 SB. Volpe is hitting .471 since being called up to AAA a few days ago.
With a lot of their bullpen on the injured list, the Yankees signed some pitchers to mostly minor league deals. Now Anthony Banda (still with team) and Luke Bard (sent down) did appear in a game with the Yankees, and you probably know about those. New are these:
Tyler Duffey. 31, RHP. To a major league deal. Duffey was 2-4, 4.91 for the Twins this season. He was with the Twins his whole career, 2015-2022 and is 29-27, 4.57, ERA+ 93 for his career. (100 is an average ERA+).
Chi Chi Gonzalez to a minor league deal. 30, RHP. Twins and Brewers this year. 0-1, 6.87 in six games. Career Texas 2015-2016, Colorado 2019-2021, Twins 2022, Brewers 2022 9-24, 5.72, ERA+ 82.
Jacob Barnes to a minor league deal. 32, RHP. 3-1, 6.10 for the Tigers this year. Career: Brewers 2016-2019, Royals, 2019, Angels 2020, Mets 2021, Blue Jays 2021, Tigers 2022. 8-16, 4.73. ERA+ 92.
Wilking Rodriguez to a minor league deal. 32. RHP. Spent two games with the Royals in 2014.
Not major news. Depth moves because of bullpen problems.
