S.T. Game 19. Yanks fit to be “tied” in today’s game. Rule changes coming this year and next.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

For the fourth time in 19 S.T. games, a Yankees game has ended in a tie. Today it was 1-1 vs. Toronto.

The Yanks’ S.T. record is 9-6-4.

Luis Cessa cemented his stake to be a temporary replacement for Luis Severino or CC Sabathia in the rotation come April. Severino and CC will be out for the first few weeks. Cessa has had a great spring so far, and today threw four shutout innings.

Singles by 2b Gleyber Torres and SS Troy Tulowitzki followed by an RBI groundout by Miguel Andujar plated the Yanks’ only run.

C Kyle Higashioka  went 2 for 2 with a double.

Minor League Report. SWB forces 5th and Deciding Game 5 for International League Championship.

SWB won Game 4 of the Governor’s cup, 5-2, to force a fifth and deciding game for the International League Championship, which is to be played Saturday at 4 PM.

Even though the game will be at SWB’s home field, Durham, just like in Games 3 and 4, will be the home team. Games 3, 4 and 5 have had to be played at SWB instead of Durham b/c of the Hurricane hitting the Carolinas.

Minor League Report. SWB Comes Back, Slams and Eliminates LV, advances to International League Finals.

SWB tied the game in the top of the ninth, and a grand slam highlighted a five-run tenth inning as the Railriders beat Lehigh Valley 7-2 to take their divisional series, three games to one.

SWB advances to the International League finals, where they will play Durham. Game 1 will be in SWB (Moosic, PA) on Tuesday.

With two out and Quintin Berry on second in the top of the ninth, Berry was running on the pitch, and was able to score and tie the game on an infield single by Shane Robinson.

In the tenth, Ryan McBroom’s bases-loaded groundout plated the winning run, and after an intentional walk to load the bases (LV hoping for the DP) and a strikeout, Bruce Caldwell made sure SWB would win by hitting a grand slam.

Minor League Report. SWB clinches wild card.

AAA:  SWB (72-65) clinched a wild card spot when they won 3-2 Sunday while Columbus and Indianapolis both lost. SWB will conclude their season today (Monday, Labor Day) and host the first two games of the playoffs Wednesday and Thursday against Lehigh Valley. The final games will be in the Lehigh Valley Friday, then Saturday and Sunday if needed.
