The Minors. SWB pitchers strike out 22 in their 3-1 win.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

There will be a lot of minor league postseason action soon.

AAA: SWB’s Jonathan Holder, in relief, struck out 11 straight batters, and after giving up a hit, struck out another in retiring all 12 of his outs via strikeout in SWB’s 3-1 win. Bryan Mitchell started, and gave up 1 unearned run in 3 2/3 IP, striking out 8. SWB struck out 22 Rochester batters in the game. Chris Parmalee with 2 hits, HR, 2 RBI.  SWB, 84-51, has clinched a playoff spot, and has a four game lead in the division. Their magic # for clinching the division is 5. They have the best record in the league.

AA: Trenton  (83-51) won 4-3 in 11 innings.   2-run HR Mark Payton. 3 hits Miguel Andujar. 2 doubles Mike O’Neill; 2 RBI for Abiatal Avelino. Trenton is in 2nd place, 1 1/2 back of Reading, and can still take the division, but did clinch a playoff spot.

High A: Tampa (77-55) won 8-2. Justus Sheffield 0 R, 1 H in 5 IP. Thairo Estrada 3 hits. 4 hits and 1 RBI for Gleyber Torres. 3 hits, 2 RBI Trey Amburgey. 3 hits, 3 RBI Rashad Crawford. Zack Zehner 2 rbi. Tampa had already clinched a postseason berth by being the first-half (split season) division champs.

Low A: Charleston won 2-1 in 10 innings. Christian Morris 6 IP, 1 unearned run. Ricardo Ferreira 2 hits. Charleston (72-60) did the same as Tampa. First half (split season) champs, so they clinched a playoff spot already.

The Minors.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

I am out of town this weekend. There will be no recaps for games played Friday or Saturday.

AAA: SWB lost 8-0 to Lehigh Valley. Phil Coke gave up four runs in one inning of relief.

AA:Trenton won 3-1.  Bryan Mitchell, still rehabbing, 1 run in four innings. Dante Bichette, Jr., 2 hits, RBI. 2 hits Jose Rosario.

High A: Tampa lost 8-3, getting just two hits. Justus Sheffield struggled, giving up 4 runs, 3 earned, in 3 2/3 IP. 2-run HR Thairo Estrada.

Low A: Charleston lost 5-0, getting just four hits. Ricardo Ferreira 3 for 3.

The Minors.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

AAA: SWB beat LV, 5-3. Dietrich Enns didn’t start, but did get the win, giving up 1 run in 3 IP of relief. Why he isn’t on the 40 man roster, and why the Yanks don’t bring him up baffles me. He is 7-2, 1.33 at SWB, and overall this year, between AA and AAA, he is 14-4, 1.65. I’d rather see a kid like him, or Chance Adams or Jordan Montgomery get a shot than to see someone like Swarzak and others like Yates and Shreve continue to do poorly. Just saying. Time to try someone else. Ben Gamel 2 hits, HR, 2 RBI. Mason Williams 2 hits, 2 RBI. Rob Refsnyder and Donovan Solano 2 hits each.

AA: Trenton won 5-2. Dan Camarena (9-5, 3.36) 6 IP, 1 R. Dustin Fowler 2 hits, triple, HR, 3 RBI. Billy McKinney 2 hits, RBI. Mike Ford 2 hits.

High A: Tampa off.

Low A: Charleston won 8-2. Nick Green pitched six shutout innings. 3 hits, 2 HR and 5 RBI for Chris Gittens. Alexander Palma 2 RBI. Ricardo Ferreira and Cesar Diaz 2 hits each.

An aside: I hate playing “matchups.” If a pitcher comes in and does well, why not leave him in? Too often you see these “one out guys” come in, dominate, and get pulled because of matchups. Then the next guy comes in and stinks and blows the game. If a guy is doing well, just leave him in there. Guess I am too “old school” but I hate this managing by the book too much. Go by what you see and go with your gut. Guy is doing well? Ride that horse.
