Minor League Report. Austin HRs 2x in SWB loss. Playoffs coming now.

AAA: SWB (86-55) lost 4-3 to Lehigh Valley in their regular season finale. Lehigh Valley swept SWB and made the playoffs as a wild card. They caught and tied Rochester, but are the wild card because they were 13-9 against Rochester this season, so they win the tiebreaker, and will now face SWB all over again….in the first round of the International League Playoffs.

DH Tyler Austin had 2 solo HR for SWB. 2B Billy Fleming and SS Jonathan Diaz each had 2 hits.

Game 137. Castro, Didi lead Yanks to 7-4 win.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Starlin Castro had 3 hits, inc. a HR, and 3 RBI, and Didi Gregorius hit a 2-run HR as the Yankees (74-63) beat the Orioles Monday afternoon, 7-4.

Things didn’t start well. Jordan Montgomery gave up a HR to the first batter he faced, and gave up a 2-run HR in the second. 3-0 Orioles.

The Yankees tied it in the fourth. Castro singled and Didi hit HR #20 to cut the Orioles lead to 3-2. Didi became the first Yankees SS ever to have back-to-back 20 HR seasons. Nope, Derek Jeter didn’t do that. Judge walked (he walked four times in he game) and so did Todd Frazier. Jacoby Ellsbury’s single tied the game.

In the fifth, Headley singled and Castro’s 13th HR of the season made it 5-3 Yanks.

To the sixth. Frazier and Ellsbury walked and Romine bunted them over (Sanchez’ suspension was reduced to 3 games, beginning with this game). Gardner grounded out, run scoring. Headley walked and Castro singled to make it 7-3.

Baltimore got a HR in the 9th for the final of 7-4.

High A Tampa ended their season yesterday (Sunday) and will start their playoffs Tuesday.

AAA, AA and Low A conclude their seasons today (Monday, Labor Day) and will start their postseasons on Wednesday.

AAA: Lehigh Valley, needing to win, and needing help (a Rochester loss) to avoid being eliminated, got what they needed, sweeping SWB (86-54) and getting the help.  They and Rochester are tied for the wild card spot heading into today’s final regular season games. The Yankees’ affiliate, SWB, had already clinched the division.

The Yanks announced that six players will be going to the Arizona Fall League. They will be playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The players are: CF Estevan Florial, LHP Justus Sheffield, RHP Dillon Tate, SS Thairo Estrada, SS Kyle Holder and 1B Chris Gittens.. The manager will be Jay Bell, Tampa’s manager (the former Pirate and Diamondback SS who scored the winning run of the 2001 WS, beating the Yankees). The AFL runs from Oct. 10-Nov. 18th. Florial, Sheffield and Tate are considered top 10 Yankees’ prospects.

Low A: Playoffs start Sept.  6. Charleston is close to clinching the second-half division crown. Their magic # to do so is 3. They are 72-60 for the season. In the first half, they were 34-36, and finished fifth. In this split season, (High A and Low A have split seasons), they are 38-24. If they hold on to make the playoffs, the opponent is TBD.
