Boone runnerup for Mgr. of Yr.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

In a close vote, Aaron Boone came up second for the Manager of the Year Award.

Both he and Rocco Baldelli of the Twins got 13 first place votes, but Baldelli got 13 2nd place votes to Boone’s 9 and won the points count, 106-96.

In the NL, Mike Shildt of St. Louis won despite getting 10 first place votes to Craig Counsell of Milwaukee’s 13. Shildt got 95 points overall to Counsell’s 88.

Gabe Kapler has landed on his feet. Fired this offseason after two seasons as Phillies’ manager, he was hired as the new Giants manager. Former Yankee coach, and current Houston coach, Joe Espada, was in the running.

Lastly, from MLB.com:

The Astros released a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying they were beginning an investigation, in cooperation with Major League Baseball, after a story in The Athletic (subscription required) accused the club of stealing signs electronically in 2017, the year they won the World Series.

Yanks to face Houston in ALCS.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

The Yanks will face Houston in the ALCS after Houston beat Tampa Bay, 6-1, last night.

I don’t know how long it’ll go on, maybe the Yanks can break the streak, but Gerrit Cole has won 18 decisions in a row, and last night struck out 10 while giving up just 1 run on 2 hits in 8 IP.

Meanwhile, Houston got four in the bottom of the first as Tyler Glasnow was tipping his pitches.

Games 1 and 2 of the ALCS will be at 8 PM, Saturday and Sunday in Houston.

Another one bites the dust. The Phillies fired Gabe Kapler as their manager so there is another opening. There are a lot of ex-Yankees being considered for a lot of openings, We’ll see where and if there are any matches.

Minor league report. Tampa tosses a 1-hitter. Big day for Hess at Low A.

I am amazed how, 10 games into the season, some Yankees’ fans are criticizing Aaron Boone and Phillies’ fans Gabe Kapler. Some of the Phillies’ players are already ripping Kapler.

These are new rookie managers. 10 games? Really?

As far as Boone goes, I haven’t seen anything to criticize him on yet. For one thing, he can’t control the injuries that have hampered him. For another, it’s not his fault some guys haven’t performed yet (Sanchez 2 for 32 and Stanton 7 for 42 with 20 strikeouts, also the bullpen has been shaky and that was supposed to be a strength).

Give it more time. Criticizing Boone after 10 games? Really?

Astros take wild Game 5, 13-12 in 10.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Add Jerry Hairston, Jr. to the list of possible Yankees’ mangerial candidates. The long-time utility player is 41 and was a member of the 2009 WS Champion Yankees. He’s with the Dodgers in a broadcasting capacity right now. But another without managerial experience.

WS Game 5 was wild. Houston won 13-12 in 10 innings to take a 3 games to 2 lead in the WS, and they have Verlander going in Game 6 Tuesday night.

Going blow by blow could take me years.

LA had a 4-0 lead with Kershaw on the mound. Seemed safe, right? Nope.

Houston came back to tie it. LA then went up 7-4. Houston came back to tie it. In the seventh, LA went up 8-7, Houston came back with four to go up 11-8. Both teams traded runs in the 8th, then the Dodgers scored 3 in the 9th to tie it up at 12. Houston scored in the bottom of the 10th to win it.

Altuve, Correa and Gurriel, 3-4-5 in the Astros’ lineup, combined for 10 RBI.

Alex Bregman with the GW hit, and Kensley Jansen is being mortal this WS.

With Kuechel and Kershaw, you expected a pitcher’s duel. Nope.

Two wild extra-inning games in this WS, and both went to the Astros.

The Arizona Fall League is off Sundays.

Cubs’ bench coach Dave Martinez is now the new manager of the Washington Nationals. The Phillies are apparently hiring Gabe Kapler.
