Couldn’t post this until I got out of Facebook jail (what’s happening to our country? Wake up, people! Defend your 1st Amendment (and other rights under other Amendments!))
Rain Saturday washed out the Yankees game (to be made up Monday afternoon) as well as the games of their AA and High A farm teams. Here are the games that WERE played.
AAA: SWB (10-18) lost both games of a doubleheader.
Game 1: lost 9-2, getting just four hits.
D. Garcia (L, 0-2) 3 2/3 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 4 H, 3 W, 4 K. gave up 1 HR. 2 WP 9.17 (#29 prospect) McClain 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 W, 1 K. 6.52 Espinal 1 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 1 W, 0 K. 9.82
Is anyone else (I’m sure you all are) concerned about the regression of Deivi Garcia? Garcia is 3-9, 7.23 at AAA between last year and this. Garcia is still young, turning 23 in less than two weeks, but his regression is concerning. I think, based on recent results, it’s time to send Deivi down to AA and promote Ken Waldichuk (#6 prospect) from AA to AAA. Waldichuk is 2-0, 1.45 in four starts at AA this year, 28 K in 18 2/3 IP. Between 2021 and 2022, Waldichuk has gone 6-3, 3.67 at AA with 136 K in 98 IP.
Game 2: Lost 7-6 in 10 innings. RF Phillip Evans 2 hits, 2 RBI. 2-run HR (2) 2B Jose Peraza 2 hits, RBI

AAA: SWB (9-14) lost to Lehigh Valley, 9-3, giving up 7 runs in the last two innings. (Didn’t SWB start out 4-0?)

As usual, I’ll post about the minor leaguers so you can see who is hot and who is not among the prospects.
Most of the Yankees’ farm teams open up their seasons on Friday, but AAA SWB opened up tonight and beat Syracuse, 5-0.
SS Oswald Peraza, the Yankees #2 ranked prospect, hit a HR his first time up to give the Railriders a 1-0 lead. Later in the game, CF Estevan Florial, the #30 ranked prospect, hit a 3-run HR. C Max McDowell had 3 hits.
Starting P Matt Krook pitched 5 scoreless innings for the win. Reliever Greg Weissert got 5 of his 6 outs via strikeout.
Krook 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 W, 7 K. McClain (H) 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 W, 1 K. 1 WP. Lane (H) 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. Weissert 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 W, 5 K.
In a game that featured 7 HR, 4 by the Yankees, the Yanks (2-6-1 in spring training) came up short in losing to Toronto Saturday 10-9.
Of all the other teams in the AL East, I think I fear Toronto the most this year. A young, up and coming team that barely missed last year’s postseason despite 91 wins.
Michael King struggled, as did two minor league pitchers in the loss.
Joey Gallo had 2 hits, including a 3-run HR. Rob Brantly had a 3-run HR. Giancarlo Stanton had solo HR, as did Miguel Andujar.
The pitching line:
King 2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 1 W, 2 K. Gave up 2 HR. Luetge 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 W, 2 K. Green 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K. Peralta 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 W, 3 K. Nittoli (BS, L) 2/3 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 1 W, 1 K. McClain 1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 1 WS, 0 K. Gave up 1 HR (to ex-Yankee Greg Bird). Marinaccio 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 W, 1 K.
Joely Rodgriguez has a neck issue, which contributed to his poor outing the other day.
The Yankees are about to present a multi-year extension to Aaron Judge, and hopefully both sides come to a deal. Judge’s arbitration is still to be decided for this season. He asked for $21MM, the team offered $17MM.
The Yankees (1-2-1 in Spring Training) beat the Phillies 5-2 Monday afternoon.
Giancarlo Stanton drove in two runs with a double and Aaron Hicks had an RBI double of his own. Another run scored on an RBI double by Phillip Evans. Evans is a corner infielder/outfielder who was with Pittsburgh last year and who has been in the majors (121 games total) for the Mets (2017-2018) and Pirates (2020-2021).
Pitching line:
