• Initial Arizona Fall League rosters were announced today. The Yankees are sending RHP Chaz Hebert, LHP Tyler Webb, C Gary Sanchez, 3B Eric Jagielo, SS Tyler Wade and OF Dustin Fowler. There are still two open spots for Yankees pitchers (I wonder if Jacob Lindgren might be a possibility).

Game 96. Alex (3 HR) and Murphy spark Yanks to comeback win.

Down 5-0 after three innings, the Yanks stormed back to defeat the Minnesota Twins 8-5 on Saturday night, getting four in the top of the ninth to cap things off.

The win keeps the Yanks 5 1/2 up in the AL East at 54-42.

Alex Rodriguez became the fifth oldest player to hit three home runs in a game. A-Rod turns 40 on Monday. The oldest was Stan Musial (41 yrs., 229 days) who did it against the 1962 Mets at the old Polo Grounds.

CC Sabathia fell behind 2-0 only five pitches into the game by giving up a single and a HR to the first two batters. He gave up a 3-run HR to Torii Hunter in the third.

Then A-Rod went to work, hitting a bomb for a solo HR in the fourth. The other day at Yankee Stadium, he hit a 453′ HR. Well, this one went into the third deck in LCF at Target Stadium. (Update: the 3 HRs were measured at 452, 422 and 424 feet).

In the seventh, A-Rod cut the Twins’ lead to 5-3 with a two-run HR. The Yanks tacked on another run when Teixeira doubled, moved to third on a line out and scored on a SF by Headley.

Still, the Yanks were down 5-4 entering the top of the ninth when A-Rod did it AGAIN. His third HR of the game, #23 of the season and #677 of his career, was another long HR, this one just to the left of straightaway CF, to tie the game.

Teixeira then singled and Beltran grounded into a force. Headley singled and John Ryan Murphy hit a 3-run HR to make the comeback complete and give the Yanks an 8-5 win. It was the first HR of the year for Murphy.

Sabathia 5 2/3 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 3 walks and 3 K. 5.38
Warren (W, 6-5, 3.51) 2 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 walk and 2 K.
Miller (23rd save) 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 walks and 1 K. 1.57.

Before the game, the Yanks sent Pinder down, brought up Nick Goody, and DFA’d Gregorio Petit.

Elsewhere in baseball, Cole Hamels threw a no-no for the Phillies, and with them needing help as the trade deadline looms, you wonder if Hamels no-no happened in what could be his last Phillies’ game. Ironically, one of the teams looking to trade for him is the team he threw the no-hitter against—-the Cubs.

AAA: Aaron Judge has been out a week with what is described as a day-to-day issue. SWB won 9-3. Luis Severino improved his AAA record to 6-0, 2.11, even though he gave up 3 runs in 5 IP. He most likely was a bit rusty from the break and having a start skipped because he became a new daddy. Overall, (AA/AAA) the 21-year-old is 8-2, 2.60 in 18 starts this year. DH Ramon Flores, 1B  Kyle Roller and SS Gregorio Petit all drove in two runs. Each of the top four guys in the lineup (CF Ben Gamel, LF Jose Pirela, Flores and 2B Rob Refsnyder) had two hits each.

AA:  Trenton lost 2-1 in 17 innings. Outfielders Taylor Dugas (the losing pitcher) and Danny Oh had to pitch.

High A: Tampa ppd.

A: Charleston won 8-7. LF Griffin Gordon 2 h, 2 rbi. SB #67 SS Jorge Mateo.
