Minor League Report. The Martian takes one to outer space.

Since the Yanks needed to bring up a lot of guys from SWB because of COVID, it had a residual effect. Guys had to be brought up to SWB, etc.

AAA: SWB (41-21) won 7-2. CF Estevan Florial 2 hits, 2 RBI, both solo HR. C Donny Sands (just brought up) 3 hits, solo HR. DH Matt Pita 2 hits, 3 RBI, a 3-run HR.

Low A: 18 year old Jasson Dominguez is the Yankees’ top prospect. Nicknamed “The Martian”, the Yanks signed him two years ago for $5.1MM. His skills, power and speed, have drawn comparisons to Mickey Mantle, Mike Trout and Bo Jackson. He played in the Futures Game before ever even joining Low A. Last night he hit his first professional HR as Tampa (44-19) won 13-4.

Dominguez 2 hits, 2 RBI, a 2-run HR. .438 at Low A so far (7 for 16). He was 4 for 20 in the FL Complex League before going to Tampa, so 11 for 36 so far. It will be interesting to see how fast he rises. Remember, just 18.

Game 74. Yanks crush KC, 8-1.

A lot of times this year, Yankees’ starter Jameson Taillon has left us, well, wanting to take a good strong drink of Jameson. (Sorry, couldn’t resist). He wasn’t very good.

Things were different yesterday. Taillon turned in perhaps his best performance as a Yankee in an 8-1 win over KC.

With the win, the Yanks are 40-34, 3rd in the AL East, and 4 games behind Tampa Bay, 3 1/2 behind Boston. The Yanks are in Boston for a 3-game set this weekend and can make up some ground. Not only that, they could get some revenge. Boston swept the Yanks in a 3-game series at the Stadium three weeks ago.

The Yankees hit three homers yesterday, the first coming by Aaron Judge in the bottom of the first. Judge’s 16th HR of the season gave the Yanks a 1-0 lead.

After Judge homered, both Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton singled. A flyout by Luke Voit moved Sanchez to third, and Rougned Odor got an infield hit to make it 2-0, Yankees.

After Taillon escaped a man-on-third, one out situation in the top of the second without giving up a run, the Yanks scored in the bottom half when with one out, Tyler Wade walked, then stole second. D.J. LeMahieu walked, and Judge, who had been in a slump, singled in Wade to make it 3-0.

Luke Voit continued to be hot right off the injured list, hitting his second HR in three games since coming off that list (in addition to two other balls that were almost homers). Voit’s 3rd HR of the season made it 4-0 after three innings.

Taillon gave up KC’s only run in the fifth. He pitched into the seventh.

In the bottom of the sixth, the red-hot Gary Sanchez struck again. Sanchez followed a single by LeMahieu and double by Judge with a 3-run HR, his 13th of the season, to make it 7-1.

The final run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Judge walked, and two wild pitches moved him to third. He scored on a single by Stanton.

Judge 3 for 3, 2 walks. 2 RBI. Solo HR (16)
Sanchez 2 hits, 3 RBI. 3-run HR (13)
Stanton 3 hits, RBI
Odor 3 hits, RBI
Voit solo HR (3)

AA: Somerset (16-7) split a DH.

Game 1: Lost 6-1. Solo HR by RF Isiah Gilliam. Somerset only got 3 hits, made 4 errors.

Game 2: Won 12-0. In the seven-inning (b/c of DH) game, three Somerset pitchers combined on a 2-hitter with 14 strikeouts. CF Michael Beltre 2 hits, solo HR. 2B Diego Castillo 2 RBI. LF Matt Pita 2 hits, 4 RBI. SS Max Burt 2 hits, RBI. RF Aaron Palensky 2 hits, RBI.

High A: Hudson Valley (13-10) swept a DH.

Game 1: Won 2-0 on a one-hitter. Keep an eye on LHP Ken Waldichuk. 4 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 W, 9 K. ERA 0.00. Waldichuk is 23 and a lefty. In 15 minor league starts, 48 IP (needs to be stretched out), he is 0-2, but he has a 2.25 ERA, and 87 strikeouts in those 48 innings pitched. He’s only given up 27 hits and 15 walks in those 48 IP, so his WHIP is 0.875. I’ve never heard of him before now, but those numbers are darned impressive. Build him up and move him up.

In the game, 2B Ezequiel Duran solo HR. 3B James Nelson 2 hits. DH Alex Guerrero 2 hits.

Game 2: Won 4-3 on a walkoff single by 1B Eric Wagaman. SS Oswald Peraza (.323) 2 hits, RBI. C Saul Torres 2 RBI.

Low A: Tampa off.

Minor League Report. German on rehab, also, news on Stanton.

Reg. Sched. game: won 6-4 but the real story here is of Domingo German’s rehab start which was only so-so, if that. He pitched 4 innings, gave up 4 runs, 4 hits, 2 Walks, 5 K. He gave up two two-run HRs in the third inning.

Minor League Report. Gio rebounds nicely.

cropped-the-stadium-facade.jpg

AAA: SWB (3-3) wins 5-1 over Lehigh Valley. Gio Gonzalez, who after the Yanks had signed him to a minor league deal, gave up 13 R, 12 ER in six innings in his first two appearances (one spring training and one AAA game) , put it together last night, pitching six shutout innings, giving up just 3 hits, and striking out 10. He walked one.

DH Mike Ford and SS Thairo Estrada each had 2 hits and an RBI. CF Billy Burns 2 hits.

With Luis Severino shut down, and, it appears, out until late June/early July, Gonzalez could now become an option for the Yankees’ rotation, or even the bullpen.

Another option could be signing free agent Dallas Keuchel.

But both options as far as the rotation goes, would most likely affect Domingo German, who so far, has pitched very well. As far as the bullpen, it most likely would affect Stephen Tarpley.

AA: Trenton (3-2) won 7-2. 2B Wendell Rijo 2-run HR. SS Hoy Jun Park solo HR. DH Rashad Crawford 2 hits. 3B Angel Aguilar 2 hits, 2 RBI. Three bullpen pitchers 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H.

High A: Tampa (2-4) lost 9-8. DH Matt Pita 3 hits, 4 RBI. 1B Dermis Garcia 2 RBI. 3B Oswaldo Cabrera 2 hits. Starter Rony Garcia 5 IP, 1 R, 7 K. End of game bullpen meltdown.

Low A: Charleston (3-3) lost both games of a DH, 17-3, then 8-3.

Game 1: CF Josh Stowers 2 hits. 2B Kyle Gray a 3-run HR.
Luis Medina 2 IP, 10 R, 10 H, 4 W, 3 K. Gave up 3 HR
Rodney Hutchinson 3 2/3 IP, 7 R, 3 H, 4 W, 3 K. Also gave up 3 HR.

Game 2: Got just four hits.
Alex Vizcaino 4 2/3 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 W, 7 K
Aaron McGarity (L) 1 1/3 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 1 W, 1 K. Gave up 1 HR.
