Gardner played with wrist injury the entire season

From the Lohud blog, new hitting coach Alan Cockrell states that Brett Gardner played the entire 2015 season with a wrist injury.

Gardner’s offense began to significantly decline after the All-Star break. He was still getting on base at a pretty decent clip through the end of July, but Gardner hit just .203/.288/.290 from August 1 through the end of the year. Why would a hit by pitch in April cause a massive second-half decline? Cockrell said Gardner got injections to deal with the issue, but eventually he wasn’t allowed to get any more.

“I know he was getting some cortisone and some things like that to try to help him, and they did,” Cockrell said. “They helped him in spurts, but you can only get three of those in a year.”

That wrist injury, along with lingering trouble with Jacoby Ellsbury’s knee, might have been a factor in the Yankees’ struggles at the top of the order.

“It’s tough to hit if you don’t have legs,” Cockrell said. “And it’s tough to hit if you don’t have your hands. … I think it probably was a bigger thing than either of those guys let on.”

Also, the Yanks have let minor leaguer Kyle Roller go. Andrew Bailey is gone as a free agent. Chris Martin was released to go to a Japanese team.

Regarding the Pete Rose thing, as I mentioned yesterday, it is a a thing where I am sick of the USA just letting people off the hook. Lifetime ban. Make people responsible for their actions. If you want to let Pete, or any gambling or  PED user in the HOF, then LIFETIME ban. Compromise? Lifetime ban. Put them in only AFTER they are dead (and if Pete goes in, so does Shoeless Joe Jacksson). That way they are in (and on the plaque, the bottom line STATES why they were admitted posthumously). That way greats like Rose, Palmeiro, Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, McGwire, etc. are honored, but only AFTER they are dead, and the last line of the HOF plaque states, for eternity, the reason for the delayed induction.

And by the way, ESPN can go bleep themselves. How about awarding the Arthur Ashe Award for courage to an individual who showed REAL courage? Not a transgendered freak (Jenner) or to a person who came out of the closet (Roberts, Sam)… maybe award it  to a vet who ran a marathon or a half-marathon or whatever after losing a leg fighting for our country? Doing so on a prosthetic leg?

The Arthur Ashe Courage award to a freak. I want to vomit.

It is why I am sick of the media forcing their nutcase opinions on us and canceled my newspaper subscription and will fight the nutcase media until I croak.

The minors. Severino shines again.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

AAA: Luis Severino was great in an 8-1 SWB win today. He went 5 IP, gave up 0 R, 1 H, 1 walk, 4 K and the 21 year old is 5-0, 1.79 in AAA. Overall this year, AA/AAA, he is 7-2, 2.45. DH Greg Bird had 2 h, a HR, and 4 RBI. 1B Kyle Roller had 3 H, 2 doubles, rbi. Also with 3 hits was CF Ben Gamel. Two others had two hits.

Please, Yanks, do NOT give up Severino in any deal.

AA:   Trenton won 2-1. Matt Tracy 1 r in 6 IP, a scoreless IP for rehabbing Andrew Bailey. SS Brendan Ryan (also rehabbing) an 0 for 3 with an RBI.  2B Tony Renda 2 hits.

High A: Tampa won 3-2 in 10. CF Dustin Fowler 2 h, rbi.

A: Charleston got pasted, 12-2.

The Futures Game was held today. AA C Gary Sanchez played for the World team and AAA OF Aaron Judge for the US team. The US team won 10-1.

From Bryan Hoch at MLB.Com:

Judge, rated by MLB.com as the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two strikeouts as the designated hitter in a 10-1 victory for the U.S. team.

Sanchez, the Yanks’ No. 7 prospect according to MLB.com, went 1-for-2 with a double.

Severino would be the Yanks #1 prospect.
